Who we are

A grassroots effort, rooted in the villages of Rajasthan

Jatan is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation working with resource-poor and tribal communities in rural southern Rajasthan — regions that have long faced poor social indicators.

Since 2001 we have designed and run initiatives that improve social and demographic indicators by working with youth groups. Over the last decade, our programmes have focused on the health and education of children, young people and women.

Healthy Generation

Across 200 villages of Kumbhalgarh (Rajsamand) and Pindwara (Sirohi), reaching 20,000 children, 20,000 women, 8,000 adolescent girls and around 1,300 frontline service providers.

Khushi Project

A public–private–people initiative for early childhood care. Jatan works with 504 Anganwadi centres in Railmagra, Rajsamand and Khamnor.

30 safe, vibrant ARCs across Ajmer, Rajsamand and Bhilwara — with libraries, digital tools and sport — working to end child marriage.

A round-the-clock helpline for children in distress. Jatan runs two centres — at its Rajsamand office and at Udaipur City Railway Station.

Menstrual Health

Uger Cloth Pads

Reusable, biodegradable cotton pads made by Jatan — a holder that lasts up to two years — paired with open conversations about menstruation.

Apna Jatan Kendra

A centre for children aged 2–16 in Neemach Kheda Basti — homework help, reading, art, theatre, music, terrace gardening and a nutritious breakfast.

Over 37 years at the grassroots, and the effort continues

Dr. Kailash Brijwasi founded Jatan in 2001 and has nurtured it ever since — expanding its work into many districts of Rajasthan and across India. Education is his area of expertise, with a deep interest in gender, health and reproductive rights.
